Route the wiring harness down behind the dash and get it out the opening where the ash tray goes. The VW wiring harenss has a very long black wire with a 2 amp fuse on the end of it. This is go to terminal 15. The instructions that I was faxed say:
Install the single black wire with teh 1Amp ATO Fuse to a hot in RUN circuit (15) to the vehicle main fuse block
This is somewhat fine and dandy for a mk4, but just not something you can do on teh mk5. Luckly, the power outlet there at the ashtray is a "hot in RUN circuit (15)". The photo here shows how I rigged it up quick and dirty for testing. For the final install, I cut the wire and used the blue heat shrink crimp that came with the VW wiring harness kit to slice in the black wire.
